Rock Springs – Aug.
Smith Prep’s Rock Springs field trip is an opportunity for Smith Prep families to connect outside the classroom, build lasting friendships, and strengthen our school community. Held early in the first semester, this is a community kick-off to the new school year. The time has been designed for students to bond, parents to fellowship, and everyone to appreciate God’s creation together. Whether you’re floating down the spring, enjoying a picnic, or exploring nature trails, this outing is a cherished tradition that fosters unity and joy among our school family.

Rock Springs is located in Apopka and features crystal-clear, gently flowing spring water at 68 degrees year-round. Families can enjoy tubing down the spring run, swimming in the natural pools, hiking scenic trails, or relaxing under shaded picnic pavilions. We encourage all Smith Prep families to attend and make memories that will last a lifetime. The Upper School will participate in a house competition, building cardboard boats and racing them down the stream to see which one lasts the longest. This fun competition fosters house spirit, collaboration, and friendly rivalry, reinforcing the importance of teamwork within the community. The event is a fantastic way to kick off the school year and set the stage for the shared journey ahead. While Smith Prep hosts this event at Rock Springs, parents are responsible for chaperoning their children and families.

History Day – Oct.
Each fall, the entire Smith Preparatory Academy school community comes together to explore a unified, school-wide historical theme, rotating each year through five fascinating periods: Ancient History, Classical History, Medieval Era, Renaissance, and American Pre-Modern (Colonial to the Old West) History. This immersive event showcases student projects, interactive activities, and engaging seminars that bring the past to life. From detailed research presentations to hands-on exhibits, students will have the chance to dive deep into the culture, ideas, and key figures of the featured era.

Students explore the richness of history beyond textbooks through creative and thought-provoking projects. They experience history through live demonstrations, reenactments, and interactive exhibits. The students celebrate learning together as a school family, sharing knowledge and insights across all grade levels. History Day at Smith Prep seeks to foster a love for history while encouraging excellence in scholarship and creativity.

Spirit Week & House Game Day – Nov.
Spirit Week takes place during the week leading up to House Game Day, when upper school students go all out in showing house spirit each day. Houses may win points for showing the most spirit, as well as winning points for a short competition held each afternoon just before closing chapel. Many times, lower school classes attend these games and cheer on the students during the competitions!

Smith Prep’s House Game Day is a full day of competition, school spirit, and nonstop fun. This exciting event brings together all Smith Prep families and students for a full day of games, activities, and community-building. Upper school students will compete in a series of House Games, earning valuable points toward the coveted Headmaster’s Cup, awarded to only one House at the end of the year. Whether strategizing in team challenges, showcasing athletic skills, or cheering on their housemates, every upper school student plays a part in the competition.

But House Game Day isn’t just for the upper school. There are games and activities for students of all ages, including face painting, bouncy houses, and games for prizes! These games include relay races, tug-of-war, sack races, and more. There is delicious food for the whole family to enjoy and our annual bake sale fundraiser to support school initiatives. The day accumulates in the legendary Squirrel Wars, a competition that adult parents and staff are invited to play against the upper school. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to connect, for students to build friendships, and for our entire school to celebrate the joy of competition and fellowship.

Hoedown & Bonfire – Feb.
Put on your boots and grab your hat—this school-wide event is an evening filled with laughter, competition, great food, and lively country dancing! The upper school Houses will face off in classic games like cornhole, horseshoes, egg toss, and more, all earning points toward the Headmaster’s Cup. Meanwhile, lower school students will join in on age-appropriate games, making this a fun-filled night for the entire Smith Prep community.

As the sun sets, we’ll gather for a potluck dinner, where families can bring their favorite dishes to share. Then, we’ll light the bonfire, enjoy s’mores, and dance the night away with traditional country dancing that all ages can join in on. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to build friendships, celebrate school spirit, and enjoy a wholesome evening of fun with country charm.

Science Fest – Mar./Apr.
Each spring, the entire Smith Preparatory Academy school community comes together to explore the wonders of science through a school-wide Science Fest. Similar to our History Day, this event provides students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning, conduct experiments, and present innovative projects that reflect the beauty and order of God’s creation.

The upper school students work on science projects and experiments directly associated with their science class. From physics and chemistry to biology, every project highlights the curiosity and intellect of our students as they seek to understand the world around them. The lower school do experiments within their classes, participate in science demonstrations, and enjoy a day of science-related activities. The Smith Prep Science Fest is an exciting, educational, and memorable event that inspires students to learn about God through the exploration of God’s ordered creation.

Evening with Shakespeare – May
Evening with Shakespeare was established in 2024 and is a new tradition at Smith Preparatory Academy, where students bring the timeless works of William Shakespeare to life on stage. Each year, our lower school students delight the audience with lively performances of selected excerpts from the Bard’s plays, while our upper school students showcase their talent and dedication through a thoughtfully abridged production of one of Shakespeare’s great tragedies, comedies, or historical dramas. This event deepens our students’ appreciation for classical literature and dramatic arts.

Evening with Shakespeare seamlessly aligns with the vision of Smith Preparatory Academy and the principles of classical Christian education by immersing students in the rich literary heritage of the Western tradition while cultivating wisdom and eloquence. As a Christian classical school, Smith Preparatory Academy seeks to educate students in a manner that shapes both their intellect and character. Shakespeare’s works provide an unparalleled avenue for achieving this goal. His plays explore profound themes of justice, mercy, providence, and the nature of man—echoing biblical truths and challenging students to wrestle with questions of virtue and vice. By engaging deeply with these works through performance, students develop their moral imagination and a deeper appreciation for the human condition, all within the context of a Christ-centered community.

Smith Preparatory Academy School-wide Events

Events and Field Trips are not included in tuition. While we desire every student and family to be involved in Smith Prep’s communal life, we understand that life can be busy. We have our church communities, and we have lives outside of school. It may not be possible to attend all the opportunities afforded by Smith Preparatory Academy. However, we believe that these activities are important to the culture of Smith Preparatory Academy, and we have designed them with intention.

NOTE: Parent/guardian chaperones are required for lower school students to attend our events or field trips.
