House System
The House System at Smith Preparatory Academy is a foundational feature of our upper school community, designed to cultivate virtue, foster meaningful relationships, and train student leaders in the context of classical Christian education.
Inspired by historic models of British schooling and further refined through the wisdom of the classical tradition, the House System organizes students across grade levels into smaller, intentional communities.
Each house consists of four officers: the Head of House, the Steward, the Scholar, and the Ambassador. Alongside their Faculty House Mentor, the officers help plan the annual House Ball in the spring, while also guiding their members through the annual House Games in the fall, tutoring younger house members, conducting weekly house meetings, and hosting prayer gatherings.
Our three houses, Augustine, Aquinas, and Edwards, are named after three outstanding Christian thinkers. They are archetypes who embody the type of men and women Smith Prep aspires to form—courageous, virtuous, rooted in Christ and shaped by the Great Conversation of the West.
