About Our School
Smith Preparatory Academy (SPA) began in 1994 as a tutorial service founded by Scott Smith, who sought to make the riches of classical education accessible to home-educated students. What began as a small program quickly grew to serve middle and high school students across multiple campuses in Central Florida.
In 2010, leadership of the school passed to Mr. Michael Phillips. Under his direction, Smith Prep expanded significantly—adding a lower school in 2012, offering dual enrollment courses starting in 2015, and achieving formal status as a private school in 2016. Today, SPA serves students from K3 through 12th grade, with opportunities for college-level study through dual enrollment.
Our purpose remains unchanged: to cultivate in students a deep love for God, His Word, His Church, and the world He has made. We believe this formation is best achieved through rigorous and joyful engagement with the great conversations of the Western tradition—especially through the study of Latin and the Classical disciplines.
Rooted in the Liberal Arts, our curriculum fosters critical thinking, intellectual virtue, and a lifelong love of learning. At Smith Prep, students are invited into a vibrant community that values truth, beauty, and goodness—preparing them not only for academic success, but for thoughtful, faithful lives of purpose.
